Seven Duke TIP students at Our Lady Academy qualify for State Recognition based on SAT and ACT scores received during this academic year 2007-2008, according to Linda Emmel, OLA counselor.

The OLA seventh graders earned the award by scoring at or above the national average on at least one part of the SAT or the ACT.  State Recognition Ceremony criteria includes the national average of 520 on the SAT Math and 510 on the SAT Critical Reading and the national average of 21 on the ACT in any of the four areas--English, Math, Reading , and Science.

The OLA students earning the recognition are Sarah Anderson, Claire Burkes, Emily Dilorenzo, Mary Margaret Gagnet, Sydney Gargiulo, Amy Love, and Anna Taconi.  They will be honored at the 2008 State Recognition Ceremony to be held at The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg on June 7.

The Duke University Talent Identification Program is a non-profit educational organization which focuses on the identification, recognition, and support of high-ability students through two annual talent searches (4/5th grade level and 7th grade level).

Founded in 1980 through a grant from the Duke Endowment, the Duke Talent Identification Program has become a major leader in identifying academically talented students and providing innovative programs to support the development of their optimal educational potential.

To first qualify for TIP, seventh graders must have achieved at or above the 95th percentile in grade-level tests in at least one major subject.

Through Duke TIP’s 7th Grade Talent Search program, qualifying seventh grade students have the opportunity to complete college entrance examinations (SAT or ACT) alongside high school students and attend challenging educational programs.
