OLA goes OT for win

The OLA Lady Crescents won a heart-stopping overtime decision over their Catholic rival St. Patrick with 3-1 win at Brother Phillip Stadium.

The victory allowed the Lady Crescents to run their Division 3A/2A/1A record to a perfect 6-0 and 12-3-2 overall.

OLA looked as if it had the victory wrapped up in regulation at 1-0 until the Irish's Chelsea Parsons drilled in a dramatic goal with seconds left to tie the score at 1 .

"We played great soccer for about 50 minutes," OLA coach Christi Elias said. "We are going to have to work on keeping the intensity level up for the entire game."

The Lady Crescents got out to an early lead. In the second minute of the first period eighth-grader Blake Stefano drilled in a goal in the left corner for the 1-0 lead.

St. Patrick (9-6-2, 3-3) kept hanging around, putting pressure on the Crescents, until Parsons skipped the ball past the outstretched hands of the OLA keeper with seconds left.

The first overtime saw OLA's Ashley Libys find the corner of the net with two minutes remaining of the first period.

"I saw the ball coming to me and when I looked up their keeper came out a little from the net and I was able to get the ball past her," Libby's said of the goal. "I was real excited, I know this game was a lot of fun to play in."

The Lady Crescents got an insurance goal in the second overtime period when eighth grader Jordan Duncan drilled home a goal from the middle of the box to give OLA the final 3-1 advantage.

"We played well I thought," Duncan said. "This was a real big win for us, it had a playoff type atmosphere."

Wright was pleased with St. Patrick's effort, "Our kids gave a 110 percent, I can't ask for anymore," she said. "We just couldn't get the ball in the net a couple of times."
